SLS provides Spanish literacy, basic Arithmetic skills, and basic English literacy classes to illiterate newcomer children and teenagers who will eventually learn English. 

How does it work? 

SLS Literacy coaches teach Literacy to children in elementary grades, and teenagers in middle and high school grades, at their school sites, every day or three times a week, before or after school hours.

The program provides 2 Literacy Levels with 3 phases each. 

    • Level 1 (3 phases / 9 months total)
      – Spanish Literacy
      – Basic Arithmetic Skills – Level 1

    • Level 2  (3 phases / 9 months total)
      – Writing grammatically correct basic sentences and paragraphs in Spanish
      – Basic Arithmetic Skills – Level 2
      – Introduction to basic phonics – special sounds, blends, words, phrases, and basic sentences in English.

SLS will provide in-person services, in partnership with Marin County public school districts, and local community organizations.
